With the 'Audio Postcards' series winding down, the coming years' worth of FMOA activity will involve a couple ambitious and inventive new series of recordings. We have the Films Made of Antimatter series accepting submissions now, and an additional series entitled "Cozy Mysteries."
The literary-minded will know a "cozy mystery" as a kind of mystery novel in which all the nasty stuff happens "off screen", as it were, and we can then focus on the detective prowess of cats who lives in libraries or other such whimsical protagonists. However, I thought this term was serviceable apart from its already established meaning: with acousmatic music and other "experimental" forms, I find myself "at home," paradoxically, in the company of the unfamiliar and uncertain. Simply put, there is comfort or even "cozy-ness" within mystery.
From that simple starting line, this new series begins. Packaging will be apparently identical from one release to the next, but with more unique details as you dig deeper: each release will be a CD / cassette within a matte black sealed bag and with a large identifying sticker, which you open to reveal an album with reversible artwork (you can choose either the 'plain' variant as shown in the mockup image above, or reverse it for something more colorful).
Each release will also be a 'duo' collaboration, either between two artists who already work as a pair, or two soloists who otherwise have a strong affinity for each other's sound. Our inaugural release (which I hope to have out in December) will be from our long-standing friends Alex Keller and Sean O'Neill, who have already carved out a distinct form of aestheticized electromagnetism across a number of existing releases, and have some exclusive new material to share for this one.
Interested artists are, as always, welcome to get in touch.
